What you’ll need: The usual to go surfing with, but if you are in need of a board or other items you can rent it all at the pool.
I was recently told by a leading surf publication that wave pools are old news. This might be true in the greater scheme of things but a pool that you can surf in, located just one hour from Dubai, now that's worth writing about. Why you might ask? Well, for a region that has lack luster annual swell and a country filled with expats who have grown up surfing, having a wave pool and waves on demand is a great way to spend some time. Especially when the second closest surf destination is an international flight away.
Also for those who aren't seasoned surfers you can also sign up for lessons. We caught up with head instructor, Luke, who will give you a few pointers while you're in the water.
You can also raft or kayak while you're at the water park.
Dustin (pictured below) and I loaded up the car with a stack of boards to test on the wave... From left to right we used the Dutchie 6.1 short board, 6.1 short board and 5.9 fish, JS 5.8 'I am red' fish and 5.9 king fish and the Clayton 5.8 old school twin fin fish.
Price of admission to Wadi Adventure is Dhs100 per person. For a one hour session in the wave pool it's an additional Dhs100 per person. The maximum number of people allowed in the wave pool per session is six. Booking in advance is a wise move too. Open from 12pm to 11pm or 12midnight Tuesday to Sunday.

5 waves an hour with six people in the water = 40 dirhams per wave. Wave is fat. Kooks paradise.
ReplyDeleteAt least we've got a full-time wave. Let's hope for a quiet day at the pool with plenty more waves to be had.
